”Here, take these cookies with you,” Sophia insisted, pushing a box into Lydia’s hands as she was going through the front door. In classic Sophia style, the box was adorable, decorated with a bow and Lydia’s name written across the tag in beautiful cursive writing. It was a cool, rather beautiful night outside… the sort of night where you could just tell there was a storm on the horizon. ”They’re your favorite.” Sure enough, when Lydia opened the box, there was a batch of applesauce cookies in there. When Aiden went to reach for one of the cookies, Sophia immediately slapped his hand away. ”Is your name Lydia? I didn’t think so. Go get your own cookies.”
The corners of Lydia’s mouth twitched upward even as she tried to hold back her smile as Sophia hit Aiden. ”Thanks, mom,” Lydia said, hugging Sophia back as she gave both her and Aiden a big, tight hug. Sophia had been overjoyed to see that Aiden seemed to be taking on more than just the guard dog role. Of course her best friends had whisked her away to probe her on everything, including whether or not she and Aiden were having sex again. At this, Lydia had only blushed and tried to tell them that it was complicated. She wasn’t sure if she was ready to tell Mercy and Kat about what happened with Marc. Aiden was enough for now, though she would try to tell Mercy and Kat at some point. That was as far as she would go though. Lydia wasn’t the kind of girl who wanted the whole world to know that she was raped.
As far as the truth about the complications went, Lydia and Aiden certainly hadn’t had sex yet. That wasn’t to say that they didn’t get close, they just always stopped before or when Lydia would start to get uncomfortable. It wasn’t Aiden’s fault whenever she would get uncomfortable. He was doing everything he could to take it slow. Her mind would just start to wander back to that night and she would start to clam up. She felt guilty for this, of course, and frustrated beyond belief. She wanted to be with Aiden more than anything, but she was trying.
”Goodnight you two! Be safe! Don’t forget to lock your doors and-“
”And don’t talk to strangers, they get it Sophia,” James said, appearing in the doorway as Aiden and Lydia were walking away. Lydia waved back to them as they waved goodbye. Sophia was constantly telling them to be safe, but even more so now that Lydia was being targeted by the Death Eaters. ”You watch out for her, you hear me, Aiden?” Sophia called, just before the two of them disappeared, hand in hand, with a loud crack.
Lydia hadn’t been staying with Aiden very long, but she was partially moved into his house already. Of course she missed her apartment, but Lydia didn’t have to say that she felt safer staying with Aiden. That much was obvious. She was now spending most nights with Aiden and not just because it was easier than having an Auror sleeping on her couch every night. It also had to do with the fact that she loved this man and falling asleep in his arms every night made her feel safe. It had been Aiden’s idea to have her stay at his place, where Marc, who was still hanging around the shop night and day, couldn’t find her. While staying at Aidens, she only needed to have other Aurors following her around when she was out or at the shop.
It was funny really… seeing how much things had changed. Though Aiden lived in the same house he bought just after his parents died, he’d completely renovated the entire thing. Lydia’s first response had been somewhere along the lines of “it’s so… black.” Even in the week or so that she had been staying with him though, color was slowly starting to pop up throughout the house. She could already tell that Lena had already been trying the same tactic.
Once inside the house, Lydia set her box of cookies down in the kitchen and was already slipping out of her heels. ”Freedom…” she groaned enjoying the feeling of getting her feet out of those death traps. She was already opening up her box of cookies and taking a bite out of one. As always, they were perfect, though Lydia tasted that something was a tiny bit different about them. They were still probably the best cookies she’d ever had though.
”Oh my god, these are the best. Don’t you wish you could have some?” she teased Aiden, pulling herself up to sit on the counter with a devilish smile on her face as she finished off her cookie. Sophia was great at knowing just about everyone’s favorite anything. She knew Lydia better than her own flesh and blood mother, that was for sure.
