Killian walked into the office with his last hotdog, one of the three he had bought from a man selling them out of his little cart, and practically shoving a third of it into his mouth. Ketchup dripped a little onto the floor and he looked around before rubbing it into the carpet with his shoe. Okay, so maybe he should have cleaned it up but even Sophia would have died from that miracle. He was just about to sit down at his desk, the hotdog stuffed into his mouth another third of the way, when he noticed the package sitting on John’s desk across from his.
Now Killian knew for a fact that it hadn’t been anything John had ordered himself, the wrapping paper was just too bright. So naturally curiosity got the better of him. Looking around to make sure no one was around he set his hotdog down on his desk and walked over to look at the package…then picked it up and walked over to his desk with it. It was for sure from Katerina, who else would be sending John brightly colored packages? What if there was sexy lingerie in there just to taunt John? Okay, that made up his mind. He was opening the damned thing, then he could pretend he hadn’t known it wasn’t his.
He tried to tear the wrapping in a straight line, that way he could put it all back together without it looking like it had been opened already…but he failed after only a couple of seconds. Deciding to just rip it open and try and fix it later, he tore the wrapping haphazardly until the box tumbled out. Oh ho! It WAS a clothing box, there was even the name of the shop printed across the lid of the box, though Killian didn’t recognize the name. Gleefully he took off the top only to be disappointed in finding a men’s t-shirt inside. But he had gone that far, so he pulled it out and almost immediately his eyes bugged out.
He hurriedly folded it back, though it wasn’t nearly as neat as it had been, and closed the box. He tapped the wrapping paper with his wand and it feebly moved and then stopped. Sighing Killian grabbed some tape from his desk and managed to just finish taping the wrapping paper back together as John walked in. Hurriedly, he put the package on his desk and said ”Hey man, this came while you were gone…I totally thought the owl placed it on the wrong desk…but one look inside and I knew I was wrong.” And boy was he glad. He wasn’t ready to be a dad, Cian hadn’t even agreed to marry him yet!

Whoops. Rubbing the back of his neck, John knew he was in for shit once Lydia and Kat found out about him telling Aiden about Lydia's little secret. When he'd told Aiden congrats and that he was happy it wasn't him who had to deal with a screaming baby, he'd sworn that Kat said Lydia was planning on telling him the night before. Turned out he was wrong. Walking back to his desk, having left it to go scarf down his lunch and, apparently, ruin Lydia's surprise, John grew suspicious when he saw Killian. "Yeah, sure," he said to Killian, giving him a dark look for opening up the package that it looked like his wife sent to him. "I'm sure you thought it was Cian, right? Oh, wait, she doesn't like you enough to send you packages."Smirking, he opened the package that his friend had badly rewrapped. "Whatcha got there?" Jared asked, coming over and taking a sip of his coffee as he leaned against John's desk. When he saw that it was just a shirt for John, he rolled his eyes. "That's boring. I thought it might be lingerie, or food." He nearly walked away, but paused when he saw what happened next. Holding the shirt up so that he could read it, John's eyes scanned over the words once... twice... three times. "Who's gonna be a daddy? This dude." He didn't get it, so he had to read it again. By the fifth time that he scanned over it, the wheels in his head turning, John didn't even know what hit him. Jared certainly saw what hit him though: it was the edge of the desk, when John blacked out. As John laid on the floor, unconscious, Jared set down his coffee mug and picked up the shirt. After reading it just once, a wide grin spread across his face. "Maybe we should get him home to Kat, should we? Look, his head's bleeding. Dumb ass." Jared laughed, tossing the tee shirt over his shoulder to take with him. "Grab his feet."John

”That’s what I thought too!” Killian responded without thinking, then said ”Shit.” Looking over at John though, he realized his friend wasn’t even listening to them right about then. A broad grin crossed his face as he watched John read and reread the shirt over and over again as if it would suddenly change and say something like “Just Kidding” but it didn’t. About the time that John fell and hit his head Aiden was walking into the office. ”What is wrong with him?” He asked, worried since he had seemed completely fine when he was telling him earth shattering news a little while earlier. ”He’s just found out he and Kat are expecting.” Killian all too willingly gave up. Aiden just shook his head and grinned ”Serves him right.” He said as he watched Killian grab John’s feet and disapperate with Jared holding his shoulders. Katerina hummed to herself as she made herself a tunafish sandwich, something that she didn’t normally like but if there was one thing she had learned from Lydia’s pregnancy with Stryder it was don’t ignore your cravings. So, there she was, in the middle of making herself a sandwich when she heard the oud crack in her living room…followed by the crashing sound of one of her lamps. Grabbing her wand from the counter she spun around and went to investigate the noises. What she saw was Jared and Killian haphazardly trying to get John, bleeding head and all, onto the couch. They dropped him once, and Katerina winced. ”What the hell is going on? What happened to him?!” Katerina demanded as the finally got him onto the couch, though Killian managed to knock over a wooden table clock she had found at a garage sale before getting John’s feet on the couch. ”Hey Kitty!” Killian said, walking a circle around Katerina. ”You don’t look pregnant. Are you sure this isn’t some sort of cruel joke?” He asked her, stopped and staring at her, crossing one arm over his abdomen and holding his chin with his other hand he looked at her as if he were trying to decide whether she really was pregnant or not. ”Yes I’m sure you idiot! It’s not like I’m going to balloon into an elephant overnight you asshole.” She said giving him a withering look before bending over her husband to assess his head wound. It didn’t seem to be all that serious enough to have caused him to be unconscious though so she looked at Jared and asked again ”What the hell happened?”Katerina

When they finally got John onto the couch, Jared stood back, hands on his hips. He would come to eventually, but whether or not he would come around to being a father... well, Jared was sure his brother would be fine even though kids hadn't exactly been on his agenda. John would get over it though. Jared knew better than anyone that fatherhood could change your mind about a lot of things and he loved his daughter more than anything... even if he had offered to sell one to Mercy and Keiran.
"He got your news," Jared said in response, looking over at Kat and then back to John. "I think he took it rather well." Sadly, in comparison to Jared, this statement was true. Like John, having kids hadn't exactly been on Jared's to do list, but he'd come around... sort of. There were still times that he went and hid where Ellaria and the twins couldn't find him, but only for a few minutes. He was usually desperate for a nap. Taking the tee shirt that he had draped over his shoulder, Jared tossed it onto John.
"Congrats, Kat," Jared said with a sly smile. Going over to Kat, he gave his sister in law a hug, lifting her off of her feet as he did so. "You might want to take a look at that cut on John's head. He smacked it really hard after he passed out. Dip shit probably has a concussion. You're the healer her though; I wouldn't know." He let her go and shrugged his shoulders. "I'll see you later." At that, Jared disapperated, figuring Killian wasn't far behind him. John groaned pathetically on the couch, consciousness slowly coming back to him.

Honestly when Katerina had thought of the cute way to inform John that he was going to become a father she hadn’t expected him to react like this. Was the idea of having a child that horrifying to him? Her maternal clock had been ticking for quite some time now, so badly at times that she had to physically keep her from walking up to other women with their babies because she would end up talking to them forever just to be around their child. But of course, John had put down the idea of having children for years now.
Kat had taken for different tests just to make sure that they were telling her the truth, mainly because she had so diligently kept up with her birth control. She hadn’t missed any, she was positive. So something had to have counteracted with them or something. She braced herself for Jared’s hug, her arms stuck at her side as he picked her up. ”Thanks, obviously you’re brother doesn’t think it’s much of a congratulatory occasion.” She said, trying hard to keep the disappointment from her voice. ”Yeah, don’t worry, I’ll check it, you go back to work…both of you.” She said, looking at Killian as Jared disapperated and John started to finally come around.
Killian poked John rather hard in the side and looked at Kat ”You sure you don’t want me to hang around? He might need to be revived again once he remembers why he fainted in the first place.” He asked with a devilish grin. ”No I don’t want you to hang around, you’ve made enough of a mess already. Just go back to work please.” Katerina said, glaring at him until he said ”Whatever you command” He then bowed to her and disapperated, following Jared.
Sighing Katerina went back into the kitchen and filled a bowl with warm water and grabbed an old rag then went back into the living room. Kneeling beside her husband she started to clean the wound on his head as he began to wake up. ”So, are you all done fainting or do you want to do it a couple more times?” She asked him, really trying to keep the disappointment out of her voice. Was she going to have to be excited for the both of them?

John groaned again, his head pounding. When he heard Kat's voice, he briefly opened one eye. "Kitkat, I had this awful nightmare," he said happy to see that that was exactly what it was. He must have fallen asleep on the couch... yeah, that was it. Why did his head hurt though? And why was she cleaning it? Was he bleeding?
Pushing himself up into a sitting position, John rubbed at the sore spot on his head. There was something on his chest and, as he told her about his nightmare, John lifted it up to see what it was. "I was in work and I got a package, and inside was this shirt that said- AHHH!" Tossing the shirt away from him like it was infected with some sort of disease, John practically leaped off of the couch.
It wasn't a nightmare. Well, it was, but it was definitely real. Very... very real. "What's going on here?! How can you be pregnant?! You're on birth control!" When this thought occurred to him, John found himself getting angry. Had she tricked him into this?! "YOU STOPPED TAKING IT, DIDN'T YOU?!" Oh go, oh go, oh god. Rubbing the back of his neck, John started to pace back and forth. This couldn't be happening... why was his heart pounding? Was he having a heart attack? Oh god, he was having a heart attack. Was this her plan? Was his wife trying to kill him?! He wasn't ready to be a father! "We talked about this!" Of course, by talked about it, John really meant that they didn't talk about it... he just kept pushing the subject back every time she brought it up, making excuses and insisting that maybe they could talk about having a baby some other time. Oh god, he was going to throw up.

This really really wasn’t going as she had hoped. Was it too much to ask that he be happy about the fact that he was going to be a father? Apparently it was according to the way he was reacting to the news. How could he think that it had all been a nightmare?! It had been the best news Katerina had had in a long time. At that moment she was both angry and devastated with the way he was reacting. Was this going to have a negative impact on their marriage? She definitely wasn’t going to entertain any type of ideas that had anything to do with giving up or getting rid of the child that she was growing inside of her. Kat hadn’t known for very long, but already she was attached to her baby.
Katerina could help but flinch at the way he yelled at her, accusing her of not taking her birth control anymore. ”No! I absolutely did not stop taking it you asshole! She yelled back at him, on the verge of being in tears. She was mad at him for being mad at her and mad at herself for wanting to cry, and it all became too much. They started to spill over.
”No we didn't! I tried! I tried to talk about it! But you just kept putting it off!” She said tearfully, throwing the bloody rag into the bowl and setting it down on the table. Straightening out from her kneeling position she looked at him and said ”If it’s really that much of a nightmare then you don’t have to be a part of it. I’ll do it all by myself, at least our child will have someone to love it!” Katerina said through her tears before storming off towards the guest bathroom and locking herself inside and sitting down on the toilet. Her hormones were definitely getting the best of her. She was never this dramatic…or tearful, but it wasn’t her fault! Ugh why did her husband have to be such an ass. This was awful, just plain god awful.

John just gave her a look when she called him an asshole, but when he hit her with the truth... okay, he may have started to feel a little guilty. He knew she wanted a baby... he'd always known that. Just the idea of having a living, breathing, tiny human being relying on him for its survival though... it scared John shitless... and he wasn't easily scared! He willingly tackled Death Eaters to the ground... but fatherhood?
He couldn't help but wince when she stormed off and locked herself in the bathroom. Okay, so he was a jerk. He wasn't going to just let her raise their child on her own. She was his wife... they were supposed to be a team. He just... had some adjusting to do, he supposed. Anything could have gone wrong with her birth control, he knew that and if it hadn't happened like this, who knew if he ever would have been ready to actually try for a baby?
Feeling a little guilty, John made his was to the bathroom, feeling a little sheepish as he knocked on the door. He hated making her cry. "Would you open up?" he pleaded, listening at the door. He was trying to hear if she was still crying or not. He was going to have to apologize... that wasn't something he did too often. "Please? I'm sorry, KitKat, I didn't mean to be a douche nozel. You can spank me if you want..." He was just trying to get her to smile now. "We can talk about this. Just let me in."

Katerina was sitting there, head in her hands as she tried to stop the volcano of hot tears that were streaming relentlessly down her face when John knocked on the bathroom door. She was still rather upset with him, reacting as if having a child was the end of the world. So of course when he asked her to come and unlock the door she refused. No. Go away." Kat told him, trying to sound all put together and not like a tearful blubbering girl. Ugh, if she was going to cry about things a lot she might want to invest in some better cleanex's...the ones she was using right then weren't at all the softest things, already her nose felt a little raw.
Of course, it was hard to stay mad at him when he used the nickname only he called her. And when he suggested she could spank him, she threw a look at the door as if that didn't sound like a bad idea. Sighing, she stood and looked in the mirror. Ugh, she looked awful, her eyes were in the beginning stages of puffiness and her cheeks were all red and raw. Wiping away the remainder of the tears and tentatively unlocked the door and opened it.
"Fine, you can come in. But don't think I won't remember the part about the spanking. I might still do that...or drag you to Sophia and let her do it." Kat told her husband, giving him a serious look before going back to her place on the toilet...good thing she made a habit of closing the lid all the time, especially since John almost always kept both of them up. She had to go in after him every now and then just to put them back down. Especially after one particularly embarrassing incident where she had fallen in since he left the seat up.

Leaning against the door frame as she finally opened up, John watched his wife sit back down on the toilet, feeling like a gigantic ass. He'd once beat the shit out of a kid for hurting her and making her cry and now he was the asshole who was doing just that. Maybe not physically, but emotionally. Frowning at her her torrential downpour of tears, he pulled away from the door and moved toward her. Standing before her, he tilted her chin upward so that she would look at him.
Setting his hand on the side of her face, he brushed her tears away with the pad of his thumb before squatting down in front of her. "I'm sorry, baby," he said, his brows drawn together. He meant it too. Seeing her like this really hit him hard and knowing that he was the cause of her tears just hit him even harder. Taking one of her hands in his, he kissed it before just holding onto it and caressing the back of it with his thumb.
"I was just surprised is all... it's sort of a big deal... a big step." His head was still pounding and the cut he'd sustained was still bleeding a little. He honestly probably had a concussion, but he didn't care about that right now. What he cared about was his wife and the fact that she was pregnant... with his child. Knowing this... it actually warmed his heart a little. What was growing in her womb was his... theirs, really. It was sort of bizarre and he almost didn't believe it just yet.
"It's another mouth to feed... a life to take care of. It's a big responsibility." Christ, he'd lost his fucking hamster once and Ethel killed it, thinking it was a rat. What if that happened with the baby? He was still feeling rather dizzy and sick. The baby. HIS baby was going to need him. Could he really handle the responsibility of taking care of a baby? Well... whether he was ready or not, they were going to have a baby and, even with how apprehensive he was, he wouldn't dream of pursuing the other options available to them. "It's just... a lot to adjust to."

Katerina watched as her husband moved from his spot at the door to come and stand in front of her. She couldn’t help but lean her face into his hand as he wiped away the tears that were still making their escape down her cheeks. Even despite being mad at him for how he had reacted to the news that they were to have a child together, her stomach still managed to do a somersault as he squatted down in front of her and apologized. Of course when she had told him that she would take care of the baby herself she had scared even herself with the idea… she may have been wanting a baby for ages now but even to her the idea of taking on such a responsibility, now that it was actually a real thing, kind of scared her.
Kat couldn’t help but give him a small smile as he took her hand in his, kissing it before holding it and rubbing it gently with his thumb. She gave his hand a small squeeze. ”It’s definitely a big surprise for the both of us…” She told him quietly and lifted her free hand to his handsome face. She couldn’t help but love this man and, despite the way he reacted, she knew that he would do a fantastic job as a father… maybe even because of the way he reacted.
”It is, and don’t think that it doesn’t kind of terrify me thinking that in about nine months we’re going to have this little life depending on us for everything…” Kat told him as she scooted closer to him on the toilet seat, her hand still on his face as she looked at him with love in her eyes. Her tears had pretty much dried up by now. Katerina took the hand that was holding hers and pressed it to her still flat stomach where their tiny child was starting to grow inside her and leaned forward at the same time, pressing a kiss to her husband’s lips.
”You’re going to be a fantastic father though you know, I have faith in you.” Kat told him, a pretty smile lighting up her face as she said this. They were going to be parents. It was still kind of surreal to her but the more she thought about it the more her heart seemed to grow, making room for the baby that was growing inside of her at that very moment. ”I love you.” She told him before kissing him again, excitement starting to take the place of the anger that had filled her only moments earlier.

John’s eyes flashed to her stomach for a moment as she held his hand to it, only to travel back up to her face as she kissed him. He watched her with worried eyes as she gave him that beautiful smile of hers and he hoped to God she was right because all he could think about was how he was going to royally fuck this up.
”Assuming I don’t lose our child, forget to feed it, or accidentally swap it with someone else’s, I’m sure I’ll be just fine…” he said, trying to make light of his fears. He kissed her back, savoring the sweet taste of her lips as he pulled back. Hugging her around the waist, John pulled her closer, kissing her stomach and resting his head against it. The way he held her though, it was like she was a fragile piece of glass. That wasn’t quite like him, but he was worried that one wrong move could hurt the baby. His baby was growing in there.
Perhaps it was really his fear that had kept him from pursuing this dream with his wife all these years. He was downright terrified, but he didn’t want her to see that… because he feared even stressing her out or upsetting her over it might hurt the baby somehow. It went deeper than the fact that he didn’t want to have to deal with a screaming, drooling baby that did nothing but eat, sleep, shit, and repeat. There weren’t many things that he was afraid of, but this was one of them… but he was going to have to face this fear because there was no way in hell he was going to leave Kat to do this alone or make her do something that she didn’t want. He would get used to the idea of being a father… wouldn’t he?
”I love you too,” he said, truly meaning it. He’d known that Kat wanted a baby and he knew what this meant to her. If it made her happy, then it made him happy too. Anxious, terrified, and mind numbingly worried, but happy. They were a team in this and he’d married her because he loved her, so they were going to have to grow their family now or never. He had a feeling that he was going to need a few drinks with the guys soon… or a talk with his mother to ease his worries.
”My mother is probably going to be the happiest woman on the planet when we tell her…” Sophia had been badgering all of her children for years about having children, always asking him why they were waiting and always trying to give Mercy advice on how to get pregnant. Of course, he didn’t know yet that his mother was going to practically die of happiness because he didn’t know that Mercy and all of their friends were expecting as well.
”Your brother is probably going to kill me though. This is going to shatter his hopes that you’re still a virgin,” he said with a smile, against her stomach. ”Do you love me enough now to look at my head? It’s pounding…”

Watching her husband pull her closer to him and pressing a kiss to her stomach had tears stinging at her eyes all over again, but this time they were good tears. The way John held her in that moment made her feel like the safest woman on the planet, this strong, handsome man wouldn’t let anything happen to her, not that that had been any different before he had found out she was pregnant… but, well this just felt different.
Kat’s fingers pushed their way through his hair as she held his head there at her stomach and briefly imagined what it would be like when she was as big as a house to have his head resting on her stomach as their child moved or kicked against him. Just the idea of that had her stomach flipping in excitement, she’d finally get to experience those things first hand instead of hearing about it from others. She wasn’t all that excited about the morning sickness and those other less exciting things that came with being pregnant, but she would put up with all of that to see her beautiful child for the first time and falling in love with something she and John made together.
She felt so close to him in that moment, she’d always loved him, even when he was driving her up the wall with their arguments, but this, having his child, it just seemed to solidify their relationship with one another even more. Katerina smiled down at his head, her fingers moving through his hair as if stroking the back of his head as he told her he loved her. God her heart felt so full.
”Your mother is probably going to pee herself in excitement…” Kat told him, grinning knowingly down at the back of her husband’s head at the thought of Sophia’s reaction to finding out that all five of them were pregnant and joining Athena in the baby making factory…honestly it was a bit odd that they had all managed to get pregnant around the same time but Kat wasn’t about to complain about it… she had friends to share the experience with and their children would all be closer than ever growing up.
Katerina’s eyebrows went up as he brought up Cailan. ”I’m pretty sure his hopes were shattered the moment we started dating, babe… I mean, you did have quite the reputation back then.” She said grinning. His reputation hadn’t kept her from crushing on him though, if anything it had made her crush harder on the handsome, bad boy Scarborough. As he brought up the cut on his head again, Kat slid her hand under his chin and lifted his face up to look at her.
”You might be lucky and have gotten back into my good graces enough, yes.” Kat told him, her eyes practically dancing with amusement. She ran her thumb gently over the still slightly bleeding cut and sighed. It was deeper than she had thought it was. ”You probably have a concussion… which means you probably shouldn’t fall asleep for a while… but I’m sure we can come up with ideas to keep you awake…” A mischievous look crossed her face as she said this to him.

”Yeah, a reputation for being an angel,” he retorted, smirking and remembering his days of womanizing and being an overall asshole. Well, he could still be an asshole, but at least he was an asshole who was mutually exclusive… and Kat had the ring on her finger to prove it. Deciding to marry Kat had been a big leap for him as well, but when John looked at her one day and knew he couldn’t live the rest of his life without her, he knew that he had to ask her. It had turned out to be the best decision of his life despite his previous apprehensions over marriage. This baby thing… maybe it would turn out to be the be the best thing that ever happened to him, right along with marrying Kat.
John groaned at the mention of him possibly having a concussion, though he had figured that might be the case anyway. ”I hope that’s not what you tell your patients…” he said to her, arching a brow and pulling back. The look on his face was probably a little pitiful as he looked up at her and he knew it. Hell, he may have even been milking it just a tiny bit, as he was sometimes prone to do whenever Kat was taking care of him like this. Around anyone else, he probably would have acted like it wasn’t even there, stubbornly ignoring it and playing the tough guy.
Kissing her stomach briefly, John pushed himself up and crossed over to the sink so that he could observe the cut himself in the mirror. He was an auror… of course he’d had worse. Hell, he’d had worse just from the shenanigans he often got into with Killian and Jared when they were younger (okay, sometimes they still managed to wreak havoc), but it still hurt and and his head definitely ached.
”I don’t even remember hitting it,” he said with a wince as he touched the spot. ”Did those assholes mention what I hit it on?” Great, he was never going to live this down with those two. ”I guess this is what I get for accidentally telling Aiden that Lydia’s pregnant…” Shooting a look at his wife, he gave her a bit of a “whoops” look. Lydia had trusted her with that bit of news and Kat had then trusted him with it only for him to go off and let the cat out of the bag. It was probably a good idea for her to just refrain from telling him secrets from there on out.
